If you're after a new camera for the sole purpose of snapping selfies, Casio might have just the ticket for you. It's called the Casio Exilim MR1, and while it boasts a hefty 14-megapixel sensor, its quirky design packs in a shiny mirror at the front to help you get that perfect self-portrait.
It looks like Casio's the latest to get onboard the selfie train, as the Japanese giant has just announced a brand new camera that specialises in framing perfect self-portraits. The Exlim MR1, or 'Kawaii Selfie by Mirror Cam', will help you get your shots just right as under its slim shell is a 14-megapixel sensor that's hidden behind a curved mirror.
It's convenient for taking the ideal shot, but you do get a slow f/5 aperture and it looks like its LED flash won't help much in the dark. Even still, the cutesy pocket-sized camera also lets you take photos normally too, as on the back of the snapper is a 2.7-inch LCD which can be used as a viewfinder and is handy for checking out your photos. It also comes with image editing software to help enhance your skin tone or smoothness - although if it’s comparable to the same sort of software found on some smartphones, it’d be best to skip it.
The Exlim MR1 is also capable of shooting full HD video at the touch of a button onto a microSD card, and its onboard Wi-Fi lets it share photos or movies easily to your Android handset or iPhone. Due to its size the battery is limited to 700mAh, which is only enough for a 35 minute video in full HD, but it should suit you fine if you're not shooting selfies everywhere.
If you want to get your hands on the Exlim MR1, it's available in three pastel colours including white, pink and green for $330 (£210) although there's no official word on UK pricing or availability. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out.
